Joseba Irazoki

Electroacoustic. Black Box, Helsinki Musiikkitalo

Last concert in Helsinki Musiikkitalo, Black Box, I was around electronic music, acousmatic music, loudspeakers system, one sound mixer and my imagination. The performer was in the middle of the room playing with the mixer a carefully selected combination of loudspeakers, electroacoustic music by laptop and the movement of sound. On the  other hand, the audience was looking and listening to loudspeakers very focused on emotions and flying with the imagination. It was great to speak with Tuomas about our feelings after one piece, we felt totally different and our narrative creation was amazingly different.

Electroacoustic diffusion, diffusion as performance, is an electric sound production into compositional practice. Acousmatic music is a form of electroacoustic music that is specifically composed for loudspeaker presentation and with small pieces of sonorities derived from musical instruments, voice, electronically generated sound, processed sound recordings, and field recordings.

The works performed last friday were all stereo pieces, fixed by those composers, Bernard Parmegiani, Gilles Gobeil, Manuella Blackburn, Robert Normandeau, Francis Dhomont etc. This night also, we enjoyed Johannes Ylipää sound composition and his performance. This young finnish sound engineer who is specializing in electroacoustic composition and gestural controller, presented his autobiographical work comprise all the things he loved so far: symmetric interval stacks, self-similar sound structures, just and equal temperament…All imposed onto a puristic use of only a sine wave and white noise as sources.

Here you have one piece by Bernard Parmegiani, Capture Éphémère (1967).

Ludovico Einaudi

Last week, I had a great experience listening to Ludovico Einaudi in Arriaga Theater Hall of Bilbao with my friend Amaia. Thank Amai for your happy birthday gift!

This was a sense of purity, calmness and good music. His concert integrates piano, guitar, violin, cello, electronic and classic percussion. His last album “In a time-lapse” brings you into a deep reflection of time. He said that when you realised your time is limited, it’s the moment you fill this space with energy and emotions. And you start imagining and living this moments as your prime of life.

I recommend this concert to everyone! TOUR LIST.

Today I want to introduce these 5 basque musicians women: Anari, Nawja Nimri, Mursego, Ainara Legardon, Belako. They have different music styles but all of them with a strong character and personality. The order has a significance, it represents when I started to listen to them.

1. NAJWA NIMRI. Bilbao. Musician and Actress. My recommendation is this album: No Blood. (1998) and this film: Lovers of the arctic circle. (1998). Najwa Nimri nowadays : A little interview of her album “El último primate” (2010) (spanish language).

Najwa Nimri

2. ANARI. Azkoitia. Musician and Teacher in basque school. My favorite album: Zebra (2005). In my opinion, she is a big basque poetess who speaks about her real life. I always learn of her deep thoughts because I realized that they are similar as mine. REFLECTIONS. Thanks Anari!

Anari

3. MURSEGO. Eibar. Musician and Kids Music Teacher in a basque school. 4 years ago, I listened to her in Anti-liburudenda with my friends, Laura and Amaiur, we didn’t know anything about her. Mursego knows how to fill a concert hall with her music mix show. My favorite album: Bat (1) (2009)

Mursego

4. AINARA LEGARDON. Gernika. Musician. My favorite album: Forgive Me If I Don´t Come Home To Sleep Tonight (2009). I remember perfectly how I discovered Ainara Legardon. I was in a music store in Bilbao, watching and discovering new music. Sometimes, I like to buy CDs because of the cover. Hahahahahah! A new way! Why not!

Ainara Legardon

5. BELAKO. Mungia. It is a young band composed of 2 girls and 2 boys. Their last album is called EURIE. Amazing sinister post-punk with some alternative rock notes. Nice to listen to them. Last time, I danced a lot in Bakio Sound.

M.I.A

Beautiful M.I.A. She is a Tamil-British recording artist, songwriter, painter and director. And, in my opinion, one of the most trendy girls. Her delicate aggressiveness of complaining about social happenings, it is her difference.

This woman is out of fashion. She has her own personality and strength.

She collaborated with Romain Gavras, a fantastic filmmaker, in 2 music video clips. Both a piece of art and social activism. Born Free and Bad Girls.  Have a look!

Iranzu GuijarroNerea Kandina, Nermaid. Illustrator. Painter. Photographer and Surfing Lover.

Nerea Kandina is a curious and active woman. Illustrator. Painter. Photographer and Surfing Lover. All of this prove her way of living and feeling. Some months ago, her artworks were in a cute and small art gallery of Bilbao, Arrópame. I got impressed with colors, materials and feelings that her pieces transmit to me. Pure and humble. Simplicity. Relaxed. Now she has presented to a Quiksilver Championship, “Looking for your Art”. She can be the embassador of Quiksilver and can show her artwork around the world. Good chance as an artist. On 14th of November, she is going to know the result. Good Luck!

As she said, she likes to paint and sing since she was a child. Her first enjoyable game was drawing. And of course, she continues doing the same till nowadays. Yess! This is the attitude…don’t stop doing what you like most. Don’t forget the pure feelings of doing something that you like.

Here you have one song and her paintings.
