The director told us that “Half life” means that Nairobi, the city, is divided in 2 parts, poor life and rich life, he wanted to underline some problems and realities of his city. And how is the dairy life of people from Nairobi. Emotional film in different senses…laugh, cry and fight.

INVISIBLE FEAR. VISIBLE FEAR. who has not been pursued by fear? How many times are we aware of feeling this emotion? And how many times does the transparency of this emotion arrive suddenly and you don’t know how to react?

Ryan Everson artwork makes me to think about this emotion. Realizing that now, in this present life, I’m afraid. That the transparency of past experiences and the present surroundings provoke me F.E.A.R. His sculpture, a giant bold letters sit in a field, they should be easy to spot, but they’re covered in mirrors so they mix with same colors and patterns of the surroundings. This action becomes invisible and full of stuffs. It doesn’t matter how big the fear emotion is, sometimes you cannot recognise it.

Definition of Fear: it is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes entities to quickly pull far away from it and usually hide. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger.

“My most recent work comes from abstract emotional states stirred up from specific self-reflective moments. These moments arise as I become more aware of myself in the present and my inability to control the future” Ryan Everson words.

vik-muniz + Catadores: Waste Land

THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF ART AND THE ALCHEMY OF HUMAN SPIRIT. When you are using your hands, you are sharing with others and you are enjoying what you are doing… A big transformation happen in between. In “WASTE LAND” documentary you can experience this reality.

Brazilian born, Brooklyn based illusionist and innovator Vik Muniz + a filmmaker, Lucy Walker sign onto this documentary experience in one of the biggest garbage landfill called Jardim Gramacho, in Rio de Janeiro. Vik Muniz “Pictures of Garbage”, he photographs an eclectic band of catadores — self designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both the dignity and despair of the catadores as they begin to re imagine their lives. Amazing collaborative project for all of them.

Waste Land documentary follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump. In the film you can watch and feel their enthusiasm, working life and real life. And of course, you can see how much is it the catadores’s salaries and for how much money sold the art works. Stupid difference! Watch it!

M.I.A

Beautiful M.I.A. She is a Tamil-British recording artist, songwriter, painter and director. And, in my opinion, one of the most trendy girls. Her delicate aggressiveness of complaining about social happenings, it is her difference.

This woman is out of fashion. She has her own personality and strength.

She collaborated with Romain Gavras, a fantastic filmmaker, in 2 music video clips. Both a piece of art and social activism. Born Free and Bad Girls.  Have a look!

marina Abramovic

1 week ago in the trip Madrid-Bilbao by train, I started watching Marina Abramovic last documentary, “The Artist is present”. I got impressed about the strength, attitude and willingness of this woman. She has performed or gave motion to her thoughts and life experience (family, friends, military education and Yugoslavia society). Marina Abramovic born in 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Today, It has been days talking about Marina Abramovic with my friends, so talking about her here on my blog seems something I need to do too.

“The Artist is present”: This performance retrospective traces the career of Marina Abramović (Yugoslav, b. 1946) with approximately fifty works of her early interventions and sound pieces, video works, installations, photographs, solo performances, and collaborative performances made with Ulay (Uwe Laysiepen) + A documentary.

NEW EXPERIMENT AT MoMa

During 3 months (March-May 2010) everyday, 6 days per week, Marina Abramovic and a group of 39 performers reacted in total 700 hours of live performances. The 39th youth performers joint in an intensive workshop at Marina`s house to learn how to perform her past artworks. The exhibition included the first live re-performances of Abramović’s works by other people setting in the MoMa. Her performance was that visitors were encouraged to sit silently across from the artist for a duration of their choosing, becoming participants in the artwork. LINKING YOU IN EYES. This piece used to perform with Ulay, her twin. They dressed and behaved like twins, and created a relationship of complete trust. DEALING WITH RELATIONS OF DUALITY.

TAKING INTO THE LIMITS, since the early 1970s, Marina Abramović has pioneered the use of performance as a visual art form. The body has always served as her subject and medium. Exploring the physical and mental limits of her being, she has withstood pain, exhaustion, and danger in the quest for transformation. Abramovic’s concern is with creating works that ritualize the simple actions of everyday life like lying, sitting, dreaming, and thinking; in effect the manifestation of a unique mental state. Her artworks can define as “Doing very little during the performance but in a long period of time”, motionlessness, be aware of your feelings, interaction with audience and be present.

In Imponderabilia (1977, reenacted in 2010) two performers, both completely nude, stand in a doorway. The public must squeeze between them in order to pass, and in doing so choose which one of them to face.

ÁRBOLES NEVADOS finlandia.

WHITE COLOR# most often associated with innocence, perfection, the good, honesty, cleanliness, the beginning, the new, neutrality, lightness, and exactitude. I have no reason to deny this adjectives and nouns that someone has used for the description of white color. This is exact what I felt these days in Finland. Marvellous experience with the advantages of this color.

Silence, the isolation of the snow. Amazing how silent is Helsinki city, how quiet walk people through streets and how relaxing are the sound of footsteps in the city.

Lightness, the color of snow. Amazing contrast, I was expecting a deep darkness in the city but no! it hasn’t happened. Helsinki, Finland is full of snow, full of white color, and this lightness wins the darkness.

Peaceful, around white views. When I was travelling in Finland, my eyes were seeing, all the time, white fields, white/grey trees, white/blue light/pink light/ wooden houses and farms…Of course, these views, this eyesight sense transmit to your body calmness, cleanliness and harmony.

I’m from Basque Country, Bilbao, where most of lightness is because of sun, no snow, no white color. After this new winter experience, I understand better the beauty of coldness and snow in nordic countries, where the darkness comes quicklier than in Basque Country. ;-)
