Excellent conversation with Johanna Vuorio, Manager Director of NIKARI, Wood Design Furniture from Finland. She was speaking in an emotional and beautiful way her feelings with the wood as a material and NIKARI way of working. A pleasure to listen to her. ”All the Designs are, in a way, silent. They have some kind of soul”.

This time, in Helsinki, I have collaborated with Jose M. Sanchez from Kinetic Pixels. A very good Spanish friend who lives in Helsinki since 7 years. It is not my first time working with him, I love his works and I like how he captures his emotion into his shootings. I always count with him in audiovisual point of view. Thanks Jose for your great work. A pleasure! Hope we can make more!

As you know Design in Society are audiovisual interviews with people who are into fashion, architecture, social art and performances. These conversations try to analyze what kind of effects provoke daily consumption of design in our society. The Idea is to make this research around the world, visiting the most trendy cities (Bilbao, Seoul, San Francisco, Doha, Helsinki, Shanghai…) chatting with lots of curious people and analyzing different point of views, reactions and ways of thinking.

Experimental artist, designer and musician. Henrik likes to impress with his fashion show and catwalk. The art and the music are always following his fashion pieces. I love his aggressive enjoyment of the combination between different materials, textures and colors. Last year, Vibskov was in some fashion conferences in Helsinki. After listen to him, I can tell you that his personality is totally capture in his designs. Funny and realistic man.

MAKIA

MAKIA F/ W 2013. Finland

MAKIA creative team went to the north of Finland, Sweden and Norway to get inspired and design this amazing collection. This Fall Winter resort 2013 of MAKIA is more than fashion design, you can feel nordic lifestyle, you can hear a soft whisper stories from people who lives there.  They traveled and met with authentic people. Everyone had something to say and to teach. In my opinion, the colors of their shirts and pullovers are taken from the traditional houses. Textures and materials are based on the variety of animals you can meet there. Well done!

Here you have MAKIA’s website for hearing the short stories of all people they have met. http://www.makiaclothing.com

Ullanlinna district, Helsinki

ULLANLINNA DISTRICT.  The southern-most city district of Helsinki, in Finland. Here is where I’m going to live till the end of September. It’s a nice and calm neighbourhood, surrounded by parks and sea. And friends. ;-)

ÁRBOLES NEVADOS finlandia.

WHITE COLOR# most often associated with innocence, perfection, the good, honesty, cleanliness, the beginning, the new, neutrality, lightness, and exactitude. I have no reason to deny this adjectives and nouns that someone has used for the description of white color. This is exact what I felt these days in Finland. Marvellous experience with the advantages of this color.

Silence, the isolation of the snow. Amazing how silent is Helsinki city, how quiet walk people through streets and how relaxing are the sound of footsteps in the city.

Lightness, the color of snow. Amazing contrast, I was expecting a deep darkness in the city but no! it hasn’t happened. Helsinki, Finland is full of snow, full of white color, and this lightness wins the darkness.

Peaceful, around white views. When I was travelling in Finland, my eyes were seeing, all the time, white fields, white/grey trees, white/blue light/pink light/ wooden houses and farms…Of course, these views, this eyesight sense transmit to your body calmness, cleanliness and harmony.

I’m from Basque Country, Bilbao, where most of lightness is because of sun, no snow, no white color. After this new winter experience, I understand better the beauty of coldness and snow in nordic countries, where the darkness comes quicklier than in Basque Country. ;-)
